The idea behind Liminal began in Northern Minnesota in 2025. In 2026, that idea became Vault, Liminal's first public Memory Tech application.

The idea began with a simple concern: more of our lives are becoming digital, while fewer of us truly possess the record.

Photos, messages, writing, and family history increasingly live across accounts and services that may not last as long as the memories entrusted to them.

Alex had spent years thinking about how those pieces could be brought home and preserved together.

Watching his own family digitize old photographs, recordings, and other records made the problem increasingly tangible.

That work eventually became the idea of a Life Archive: a durable personal record assembled from many parts of a life.

Vault was built as the first practical step toward that idea.

Liminal has grown from there by following the problems that preservation creates, one at a time.

The aim is not to own people's memories, but to build tools that help people keep them.

Memory should outlive the systems that created it.
