de-Mail Desktop

The following privacy policy, deletion instructions, and terms apply to de-Mail Desktop. Effective October 2, 2026.

Privacy policy

Effective October 2, 2026.

What de-Mail accesses

When you connect Google, de-Mail requests gmail.readonly. This permits viewing Gmail messages, metadata, labels, and mailbox totals. It does not permit sending, changing, or deleting mail.

How the data is used

Google user data is used only to select messages, save local RFC 822 .eml copies, create a local manifest, and verify those copies. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or model training.

de-Mail Desktop’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Local processing and security

Messages are processed on your Windows computer and written only to the folder you choose. Liminal does not operate a server that receives Gmail content, attachments, manifests, OAuth credentials, or archive destinations.

OAuth credentials are encrypted for your Windows account with Windows Data Protection API. They are sent only to Google’s official OAuth and Gmail API endpoints as necessary to perform the requested operation. Archive files themselves are ordinary local files; protect your computer and storage appropriately.

Diagnostics

No diagnostics are sent automatically. A local report redacts account addresses, credentials, authorization headers, paths, message filenames, and opaque identifiers. You see the complete report before choosing whether it leaves your computer. Update checks read public release metadata and do not automatically download or install software.

Sharing, retention, and deletion

Liminal does not receive, sell, rent, or share your Google user data through de-Mail. Archive files remain until you delete them. Disconnect removes the encrypted local credential. You can also revoke access through your Google Account.

Contact and changes

Questions: alex@liminalmemory.com. Material changes will be dated and published before a later public release uses them.

Delete your data

Use Disconnect in de-Mail to remove its stored local Google credential. Revoke the application’s access in your Google Account’s third-party connections. Delete archive files and manifests from the folder you selected when you no longer need them. Liminal holds no server copy to delete.

Terms of use

Effective October 2, 2026.

Purpose

de-Mail Desktop is a local Windows utility that copies Gmail messages to a folder you select and verifies those copies. It is not a cloud backup, legal-records service, or guarantee against data loss.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for your Google account, computer, storage, OAuth authorization, archive destinations, backups, and compliance obligations. Review an archive and retain an independent backup before relying on it or removing original data.

Acceptable use

Use the application only with accounts and data you are authorized to access. Do not use it to violate law, another person’s rights, Google’s policies, or a storage provider’s terms.

Google services

Google controls its services, account availability, APIs, and authorization decisions. Those services are governed by Google’s terms.

Availability and disclaimer

The application may change or be interrupted. To the extent permitted by law, it is provided without warranties of uninterrupted operation, fitness for a particular purpose, or preservation of every item. Rights that cannot legally be excluded remain unaffected.
